What Parents Can Do to Make Some "Me" Time

3:51 AM

You want to be there for your family. As a parent, it's important to set aside time for yourself. As children get older, this sometimes gets easier than it was during their infant years, but finding time for yourself is still a considerably difficult task. Whether you are wanting to just take time to relax, or you are wanting to compare stocks while learning more about investing, you need to find ways to take the time to take care of yourself. Here are some things that you can do to ensure that you are able to find some time for you.

Adapt Your Cleaning

With kids spending so much time at home during quarantine, cleaning can seem almost impossible as a parent. Your kids are running around and need your help with their schooling. This all happens to be taking place at your kitchen table and it can cause a lot of problems.

Fortunately, there are ways that you can make cleaning with kids just a little bit easier. In these times, any second saved doing tasks like cleaning is important. Cleaning during these times is different than cleaning was in the past and we all need to make some changes to save time and a lot of stress.

Set Your Boundaries

Boundaries are important in every relationship, including the relationships that you have with your children and partner. Be firm with the boundaries that you have set so that you do not have to waste as much time getting them to stop the negative behavior. While sticking to these boundaries, and subsequent consequences for breaking them, it can be a lot of work at first, but it can have great results in the long run.

Get a Routine

With the world in the state that it is in, you might feel like your life is too chaotic to possibly have a routine. Fortunately, it's something that is still possible. While you may not be able to plan out your entire day perfectly, there is a good chance that you can set a routine for your kids when it comes to reading, napping, or other activities that could allow you to arrange some time for yourself between it all. Never underestimate the power of naps for everyone involved. Part of setting a routine could also include imposing a bedtime and sticking to it when it comes to your kids. While they may want to stay up since they don't have normal school, you would likely enjoy some time alone for a bit while they are in bed.

Treat Yourself

With so many businesses currently closed as well as the concerns of catching and transmitting the coronavirus, there is a good chance that you are not going to want to have a spa day or anything like it for a while. That's okay. There are still a lot of things that you can do to create a spa experience at home. Buy some relaxing face masks and give yourself your own beauty treatment. Set those boundaries that we discussed earlier and enjoy your time taking a relaxing bath with calming bath bombs and other products. You are allowed to take care of yourself and your own needs during this time even though your children need you too.

Focus on Your Relationships

There are many ways that stress impacts the mind and the body and these effects can also impact your relationship with your partner. Take the time for you and your partner to discuss each other's feelings and even work on how to work together so that you can both have the alone time that you need, as well as time to spend alone together without the kids. This can be incredibly difficult, but taking the time to take care of each other in these situations can make your relationship stronger than ever.

Times have changed and we are all getting used to what might be the new normal. Everyone will find that different things work for them and their families, and it's important to take the actions needed so that you can adapt to the present, as well as the future, while taking time for you.
