Langkawi is known as the "Jewel of Kedah," and even a short visit to this island paradise gives you a good understanding of how it earned its nickname. Langkawi SkyCab


Given the distinction of the longest free span mono-cable by the Malaysia Book of Records, the Langkawi SkyCab take visitors up to a height of 708 meters above sea level for incredible views of the island. The trip in a regular gondola takes about 15 minutes to complete and begins at the base of the 550 million year old Machincang mountain range before ascending into the air with a brief pass through the intermediate station at 650 meters above sea level before continuing on to its final destination.



If you wish, you can get off for a stop at the middle station where there are free to roam the viewing platforms before continuing to the top. Once at the top, there are two viewing platforms that you can climb to, to receive stunning 360 degree views of the main island of Langkawi as well as many of the surrounding islands as well. You can view the mountains, thick forests, beautiful waters and sandy beaches all from one single location. There are opportunities for shopping available at the top station of the Langkawi SkyCab as well as food and beverages available for purchase. You can even purchase a cute lock to fasten to the cables on the viewpoints to leave your legacy behind in Langkawi. It is fun to see the hundreds of locks already affixed to the structure when you visit. Rates are RM55 for foreign adults and RM40 for foreign children 12 and under. That equates to roughly $13.75 for adults and $10 for children depending on the current exchange rate.

Langkawi SkyGlide


Once you have ridden the Langkawi SkyCab to the top station and had a look around the viewing platforms, you can take the SkyGlide for a short 2 minute ride down to the SkyBridge. This is the most convenient way to get down to the SkyBridge, as the other option of walking includes many steps and takes longer to traverse.


A short elevator like ride down a track is all it takes to conveniently reach the Langkawi SkyBridge where you will get even more magnificent views of the surrounding landscape. Rates for the SkyGlide are RM10 for adults and RM7 for children, that breaks down to about $2.50 for adults and just under $2 for children 12 and under.

Langkawi SkyBridge


When it comes to things to do in Langkawi, this is one that shouldn't be missed. The Langkawi SkyBridge is the longest free span and curved bridge in the world. Built on top of the Machincang Mountain, this suspended bridge was opened in 2004.





The bridge hangs about 100 meters over the ground, and even has see through glass panels that you can stand on to get a unique view of the beautiful forest located below. With ticket prices that are just RM5.00 for adults and RM3.00 for children, this is not an attraction you want to miss out on.

The best way to visit the Langkawi SkyCab and SkyBridge is with a combo ticket that saves you money and allows you to experience other attractions located in the Oriental Village. For RM75 ($18.75 USD) for adults and RM60 ($15 USD) for children 12 and under, you can enjoy and entire day of fun which includes a visit on the Langkawi SkyCab as well as entrance to the SkyDome, SkyRex, 3D Art Langkawi and Time Travel attractions.

Helpful Tips:

• Remember your sunscreen! There is no shade up on the platforms or the SkyBridge, and the sun in Langkawi can be brutal. 
• Don't purchase a drink right before getting on the SkyCab, you will have to discard it and leave it with the hundreds of others we saw on the tables at the bottom of the mountain. 
• Get there early in the morning or consider purchasing the Express Lane option for the SkyCab for an additional RM50 to skip the line. Lines can get incredibly long in the afternoon. 
• Purchase a small bag of fish food for $1 in the Oriental Village and feed the fish. 
• Bring small bills or change to pay for the restrooms, as there is a charge for them in the Oriental Village. 
• Pay the extra small fee for the SkyGlide to the SkyBridge, it is worth it to save on the down and uphill walking, and is a fun experience.
