Florida Spring Break Ideas

As a Florida native, I have seen people flock to the state for the Spring Break trips each year. Normally, what comes to mind when you think Florida Travel and Spring Break is a trip to one of our many beaches, but sometimes stepping away from the beach scene can be a great change of pace. That's where a Spring Break trip to Ocala/Marion County comes in. With a great location in Central Florida, it is the perfect destination for not only Florida residents to take a quick weekend getaway, but for families from out of state to plan a Spring Break trip to as well.

Planning the Perfect Ocala/Marion County Spring Break Trip

What To Do:

Having teenagers myself, one thing I really appreciate is the breadth of Ocala/Marion County Activities available for outdoor enthusiasts. The boys love to get outdoors and really burn off some energy, and there are plenty of activities to keep them busy here. Some of our favorite outdoor and adventure activities include zip lining, kayaking, biking, fishing and boating. Of course, no trip would be complete to the Horse Capital of the World™ without some horseback riding thrown in!

Even in the spring, Florida temperatures are almost always warm enough for swimming, and Ocala/Marion County have some of the state's best natural swimming holes. Alexander, Juniper and Salt Springs are just a few of the many natural springs located in the area, and provide a beautiful and unique experience for visiting families. Birding is also a popular activity in the Spring as many come from all around to see the various species of birds available for observation.

Where To Stay:

No matter what type of budget you are working with for your Spring Break trip to the area, there are Ocala/Marion County Lodging options to fit your needs. From camping to bed and breakfasts, traditional hotels, rustic cabins and even vacation rentals, you will find the perfect accommodation options for your family conveniently located near the area's popular attractions. When the weather is nice like it almost always is in the spring, we love to stay at area campsites and enjoy fun around the campfire in the evenings.

Special Events:

Springtime is one of the best times to visit the area for special events. There is almost always something exciting going on each weekend, which can provide an extra dose of entertainment for the family. Events include rodeos, horse shows and seasonal festivals that are all family friendly!

If you are looking for a fun-filled Florida Spring Break vacation that takes you further than just the beaches, then Ocala/Marion County is the spot you're looking for. With a wide range of family friendly outdoor activities and affordable accommodation options for all, you'll find real adventure and beauty in this gem of Central Florida.

  1. This looks like a fun place to visit...I also homeschool and have four boys. Our family vacation spots have to allow us outdoors 90% of the time. Great post!
