The humidity has finally started to leave the air here in Florida, so the boys and I have been planning unique ways to enjoy the cooler weather and holiday season in our home state. Ocala/Marion County has made it to the top of our list of fun places to visit for the holidays with their wide range of outdoor activities, plentiful accommodation options and weekly, family friendly events. With its close proximity to major cities like Orlando and Tampa, it is only a few short hours away from us, and you truly can't pick a more beautiful time for Florida Travel.

Holiday Family Events

One of the things that draws me to Ocala/Marion County is their wide range of events that take place almost every weekend this time of year. The Ocala Christmas Parade, holiday performances at the Reilly Arts Center, the 21st Annual Trains at the Holidays exhibit, Farmstead Weekend at Crones' Cradle Conserve and Santa on the Square are just a few of the family-friendly events available for the holiday season.

Outdoor Activities

There are plenty of Ocala/Marion County Activities to take advantage of when visiting the area with your family, but our favorites in the fall and winter include the outdoor adventures that await for all ages. With the cooler temperatures, it is the perfect time to get out and enjoy a paddle boarding or kayaking adventure or go biking at one of the area's many parks. Silver Springs State Park is one of the most amazing places to take advantage of these types of outdoor activities.

River tours are a great way to see more of the area, engage in outdoor adventure and really take in the natural beauty of Ocala/Marion County. Tours are available through boat rentals, kayaks and even glass bottom boat tours.

Birding, fishing and hiking are also more enjoyable with the nicer weather, and there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy these activities on your own or as part of a guided tour.

Being the "Horse Capital of the World™," Ocala/Marion County is also an ideal destination for horse lovers. Visit the various horse farms, go on a riding tour or plan your visit during one of the annual horse shows to really get the full experience.

Family Friendly Lodging

There is no shortage of places to stay when visiting the Ocala/Marion County area. Ocala/Marion County Lodging options include everything from scenic campsites to cabin rentals, bed and breakfasts, top hotels and affordable vacation rentals. No matter how your family likes to vacation, there is something in the area to meet your needs.

What are you waiting for? There has never been a better time to escape to Ocala/Marion County and enjoy everything that Florida has to offer this holiday season.
