Exploring Ocean Life at the SEA LIFE London Aquarium #FamilyTravel

2:22 PM

When I was first mapping out our family trip to London, I wanted to add in some fun attractions that I knew the boys would enjoy. Don't get my wrong, all the history and museums can be loads of fun as we found out on our family tours of the Tower of London and the British Museum, but sometimes kids just need a break to have a little fun and explore an attraction at their own pace. That's where our trip to the SEA LIFE London Aquarium came in. Having visited the SEA LIFE Minnesota Aquarium in the Mall of America on our of our road trips here in the states, I knew they would love to explore the one overseas in London too.

The location of the SEA LIFE London Aquarium is extremely convenient and accessible by taxi, metro and bus. We were a huge fan of the red double-decker bus system and found it the most convenient way to get around the city, so we took it to the stop by the London Bridge, walked down a few steps along the Thames and boom, we were there. For perspective, it is just a short walk away from the London Eye and nestled right along the Thames, which makes for an enjoyable afternoon walk with the kids.

SEA LIFE London Aquarium is set up into different zones of various sea life. Entry into the aquarium is simple, and you start out with a quick photo opp in the entrance and then you enter the Atlantic Depths Zone where you'll find creatures that live in the depths of the ocean, including a chance to get up close and personal with their common octopus.

The Tidal Reach Zone is up next and is quite a lot of fun for the kids, as the explore creatures like jellyfish and Pipefish. Prepare to spend a lot of time in the Ray Lagoon, as people line the sides of the tank to get a glimpse of the splishy splashy rays as the swim by. If all of the areas seem full, just wait a moment or two and space opens up quickly.

The Dive Discovery and Ocean Tunnel Zones are captivating for both children and adults alike, as you get a wide open view of an underwater world. You can literally take a walk through the ocean in the Ocean Tunnel, and don't miss the hammerhead shark or beautiful sea turtle.

Rainforests of the World was another favorite zone of the boys. They loved looking at all of the exotic creatures like the Cuban Crocodile, Piranhas and Poison Dart Frogs. Their favorite zone by far though was the Ice Adventure Zone. Complete with some really cool interactive technological features, the penguins steal the show here. When we arrived, they were having fun putting on quite a show for guests, and we spent a long time with them.

Parents will be happy to know that there are an abundance of learning opportunities throughout the SEA LIFE London Aquarium, including many different facts about conservation and how we can do our part to help protect the beautiful ocean creatures. Be sure to stop by the SEA LIFE Conservation zone before heading into the Shark Walk. By far, one of the most popular areas of the aquarium, the Shark Walk provides you with a first hand glimpse into the world of these mysterious ocean animals.

If you are looking for a fun attraction for kids in London, the Sea Life Aquarium is a great way to spend an afternoon in the city. The SEA LIFE London Aquarium is open daily from 10am-7pm M-F and 9am to 7pm on the weekends. Tickets are $19.50 for adults and $14.50 for children, but you can save by buying a combo ticket for multiple attractions including the London Eye.
