Have you ever noticed that the holiday season just flies by? The rest of the year can drag on, but by the time you get to the holidays, it seems like it is over in a blink of an eye. That is why it is so important to me to use every minute we have during this time of year to make memories with my family. The boys are growing so fast and soon they will be out of the house and on their own. Ideas like our hot cocoa party help us not only make memories, but have a delicious treat at the same time. Check out the tips below for throwing a tasty hot cocoa party of your own, plus a delicious recipe for WHEAT THINS PB Chocolate Bites!

How To Throw a Hot Cocoa Party

Get Creative with Mix-in's

When it comes to a great hot cocoa party, there are no rules. Get creative when selecting mix-in's for your cocoa. We used everything from crushed up peppermints to peanut butter baking chips and they were all delicious. Other possibilities include coconut, gingerbread pieces, different flavored marshmallows, sprinkles and so much more!

Use What You Have

Hosting a hot cocoa party doesn't have to be expensive. Utilize what you already have to help cut down on shopping time and costs. Borrow holiday decor from around the house, grab mugs you may already have and use every day containers to hold all the fixings for your hot cocoa bar. The containers I used to hold our items were salt and pepper shakers that I purchased for just a dollar each.

Don't Forget the Small Touches

Sometimes the smallest things go a long way in completing the look for your table or party decor. I added festive paper straws in a holiday tin to brighten up the look of our hot cocoa station, and found adorable mugs with built in spoons. I also printed a free hot cocoa bar sign online to give an official look to our party table.

Make Some Tasty Treats

The only thing better than hot cocoa, is hot cocoa with delicious holiday treats. Make your hot cocoa party even more fun by making some festive treats ahead of time for party-goers to enjoy with their beverages. NABISCO knows how hard it can be to plan the perfect party during the holidays, and they are here to help. The NABISCO Party Planner website is full of useful tips and delicious sweet and savory recipes utilizing NABISCO products, that are sure to make your next holiday party a hit.

I visited the NABISCO Party Planner site to scope out a recipe for our hot cocoa party, and decided to make their WHEAT THINS PB Chocolate Bites. These things are incredible! I was a little skeptical about a savory cracker turned into a sweet treat, but they are super tasty and were the perfect compliment to our hot cocoa. Check out the recipe below.

WHEAT THINS PB Chocolate Bites

Ingredients:
  • 108 WHEAT THINS Original Snacks, divided
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup crisp rice cereal
  • 8 oz. semi-sweet baking chocolate, melted
  • 2 Tbsp. multi-colored nonpareils (green, red and white)
Instructions:

CRUSH 36 WHEAT THINS finely; place in medium bowl. Add peanut butter and sugar; beat with mixer until blended. Stir in cereal.

SPREAD 36 of the remaining WHEAT THINS with peanut butter mixture; cover with remaining WHEAT THINS to make sandwiches, gently pressing WHEAT THINS into peanut butter mixture to secure.

COVER baking sheet with parchment. Dip half of each sandwich, 1 at a time, in melted chocolate; place on prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle with nonpareils. Refrigerate 30 min. or until chocolate is firm.

  1. I love having a cocoa bar during the winter. I have mine on a metal tray in the kitchen and the kids love it. Everything is all in one place and gets used almost daily. Thanks for sharing on Merry Monday & hope to see you again for our first 2016 party!
