French Toast Skillet Casserole #Recipe
4:53 PMColder weather is rolling in, and I am planning meals that warm you up quick and really stick to your ribs throughout the day. I love French Toast and so do the boys and I love using my cast iron skillet, so coming up with a recipe that includes both was a big win on my part. Try out this French Toast Skillet Casserole for a warm and delicious morning meal!
French Toast Recipe:
French Toast Ingredients:
1 loaf French Bread, cubed
8 large eggs, room temp
2 C whole milk
1/2 C half & half
¾ C sugar
1/2 C dark brown sugar
1/2 C flour
2 TBSP vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp nutmeg

French Toast Directions:
-Put cubed bread in a large bowl. Set aside.
-Whisk together eggs, whole milk, half & half, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and spices until this makes a custard.
-Pour this mixture on the bread making sure that the custard covers all of the bread.
-Cover the bowl and place in the refrigerator overnight.

French Toast Topping:
Topping Ingredients:
1/2 C flour
1/2 C dark brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 C cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1/2 C dark brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 C cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
Topping Directions:
-Combine flour, brown sugar, salt and cinnamon.
-Cut the butter into small pieces working it into the flour mixture using your fingers, The end result should look like small nuggets and crumbles.
-Put in refrigerator over night.

-Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
-Treat the cast iron skillet with baking spray.
-Remove the french toast and topping from the refrigerator.
-Spoon the french toast mixture into the prepared skillet almost filling it to the top.
-Spread the topping over the french toast mixture being very generous with it.
-Bake at 350 degrees for 45-55 minutes or until the topping turns a darker brown.
-Allow the french toast bake to sit for 10 minutes.
-Serve with sliced fruit, freshly made whipping cream, or warm maple syrup.
