Where to Stay with Kids in New York City #90DayRoadTrip #Travel
9:38 PMNew York City is a living, breathing thing. It's so much more than a destination, and requires a great deal more planning to visit than any other place we have ever been to. Part of that planning for me, as a mom traveling with four boys, is where would be the best place to stay with kids in a city this big. You want to be close enough to major attractions, because let's face it, every time you hop on the subway with five people, it is going to cost you $15 each way. You want a great view so the kids can fall asleep each night watching the city, and you want room to move around so everyone is not at each other's throats. Luckily, we found the perfect mix of comfort, location and a room with a view at the Millenium Hilton in Lower Manhattan.
Location
Right in the center of the financial district, the Millenium Hilton is a great starting point for each day of your family vacation in NYC. Lower Manhattan is an incredible family-friendly area. Within walking distance of Wall Street, Battery Park, the Staten Island Ferry, Brooklyn Bridge and even Chinatown, there is so much to see and do without ever setting foot on a subway train or taxi. The pace is a bit slower in Lower Manhattan and lends itself to safe nighttime strolls through the city with kids. Rooms at the Millenium Hilton face either the Brooklyn Bridge or the new World Trade Center and 9/11 Memorial.
The Rooms
It's hard to find rooms big enough for a large family under normal circumstances, but add in the fact that you are in a destination where apartments can be the size of someone's closet, and it's an incredible treat to find rooms that are spacious enough for a family of 5. Not only does the Millenium Hilton in Lower Manhattan have rooms for a family of five or more, but they have room to spare with modern decor and floor to ceiling window views of the NYC skyline in each of their 98 suites.
From a 422 sq. foot junior suite with a King size bed and Queen size sleeper sofa, to the massive 1,600 sq. foot 2 bedroom suite, there is something to fit every size family. Traveling alone? No worries, the Millenium Hilton offers 471 regular guest rooms spanning their 55 floors.
The boys and I stayed in a 617 sq. fit. king bedroom suite with a parlor. With an additional roll away bed, pull out sofa and king size bed, there was plenty of room for all five of us. It helped tremendously that there were two TV's in our suite, as well as two bathrooms. If you have multiple children, you understand the importance of these two features. My oldest son was like a moth drawn to the light with our view of the One World Trade Center Building and view of the city at night. He would drift off to sleep looking out the window each evening.
Not only was the room spacious, but it came with all of the amenities you would expect to find in other upscale hotel rooms, all for a great price that would be lower than two standard sized rooms that you would need for a large family in other New York City hotels.
Amenities
From a pool overlooking city streets to a full fitness and business center, the Millenium Hilton is packed full of amenities to make your stay as comfortable as possible. From a kid's menu to please the little ones and a full bar for the adults downstairs, real thought to top-rate hospitality has been put into the amenities available at the Millenium Hilton.
Free Wifi is available in the lobby, and for a nominal fee in each of the guest rooms. Bringing your car? Valet parking is available for a nightly fee as well. We made good use of the business center to print out our Broadway tickets, walking tour maps and more. I also appreciated the attention paid to security. Upon returning to our hotel room each evening, we were always asked to show our room key, and as a woman traveling alone with children, that went a long way to put me at ease.
If you are visiting New York City with your family, and are looking for a place to stay that is the ideal combination of a spacious room, great location and affordability, than look no further than the Millenium Hilton.
