My Ideal Tallahassee Family Staycation #Travel

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Cracker Barrel for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

If you know me, or have read my blog long enough, you know that I love to travel. The boys and I travel about a third of the year, but sometimes it is just nice to stay home. Coming off of this #90DayRoadTrip in a few days, I am looking forward to getting reacquainted with Tallahassee. While not a huge city, Tallahassee has a lot of charm and some pretty incredible family offerings. I thought I would share a few of my ideas for a great family staycation in Tallahassee.

The Tallahassee Museum

We have been yearly members of the Tallahassee Museum for a while now. The Tallahassee Museum is the perfect balance of animals, science, history and hands on, that ensures there is always something new to see and do there each time we visit, especially since the addition of their Tree to Tree Adventures.

Mission San Luis

Mission San Luis is another one of our favorite places to go for educational fun. Here, you are transported back to 1703, where you can tour settlement buildings, a blacksmith shop, fort, and the largest historic-period Indian building in the Southeast. Walk through their museum area and see 300 year old artifacts excavated right on the grounds. They also often have special programs and live demonstrations.

The Challenger Learning Center

Home to Tallahassee's IMAX 3D Theater and Space Mission Simulator, the Challenger Learning Center is a great place for families that love science. The Planetarium offers free shows once a month, and there are often hands-on demonstrations and science equipment on display.

Museum of Florida History

The Museum of Florida History is one of our favorite places to go whenever we are downtown. They have a great variety of exhibits from the exploration of Florida until current times. The interactive displays provide plenty of hands-on activities to keep the kids engaged while learning about the state we live in.

Lake Ella

I can't really tell you why Lake Ella tops our list of favorite places to visit on a staycation in Tallahassee, but it does. Really, it is nothing more than a lake set in the town, with a beautiful walking path, old sprawling trees and plenty of ducks that like to try and steal your food, but it is a relaxing and enjoyable place to spend the afternoon with your family, and you will find many people enjoying the lake's walking path or lounging on blankets along its banks on any given day.

Cracker Barrel

A staycation in Tallahassee wouldn't be complete without a visit to our local Cracker Barrel, come for dinner early if you don't want a wait though, because this restaurant is hugely popular with the community, and it's easy to stay why. If you end up with a wait, take a break in one of the old fashioned rockers on the porch, or wander through Cracker Barrel’s Retail Store. I love their store, and pick up a lot of our road trip essentials products before big trips and always let the boys get an old fashioned candy stick before we leave each time we visit.

Their menu is definitely a crowd-pleaser too. There is something for everyone with dinner items and breakfast being served all day. It is always a toss up for me, which to order. Their fresh made food can't be beat, and I always debate over the meatloaf, chicken and dumplings or that incredible hashbrown casserole. I won't lie, the hashbrown casserole usually wins out, I am pretty sure it is what heaven is made of. You can't beat the staff that works at our store either, they are always so good with the boys and bring out a big plate of biscuits right off the bat to keep them from revolting while they wait for food.

While Tallahassee may not be the most sought after vacation destination in the country, it is our home, and we love to plan staycations to explore the wonderful attractions it offers. To learn more about Tallahassee, you can go to VisitTallahassee.com.
