Rustic Charm and Adventure at Maine's Northern Outdoors #90DayRoadTrip #Travel

10:16 AM

Located right along the Kennebec River in The Forks, Maine, Northern Outdoors is a wilderness resort with plenty of rustic charm and outdoor adventure access to spare. With cabins, condos, Logdominiums, tents and a campground available, there is a type of accommodation to meet every traveler's need. The boys and I had the pleasure of staying here during our #90DayRoadTrip, and it is one of the best ways to explore this incredible part of Maine.

Lodging

In addition to the cabins, condos and adjacent campground with tents, there are Logdominiums available at Northern Outdoors. These Logdominiums are located just a short walk from the main lodge, and are perfect for those who want a few more amenities than a tent with a still rustic and undisturbed feel. There are no TV's or distractions to be found in the Logdominiums, just beautifully rustic decor, comfortable beds and a great night's sleep.

Our Logdominium had one large bed downstairs with a small kitchen, dining room and living room with a couch and a bathroom with shower only. Upstairs in the loft, there was a large bed and another twin sized bed with plenty of dresser space and extra blankets.

The Logdominium gave us the perfect opportunity to really focus on family at night and spend time playing board games that are also for check out in the main lodge, and to just reflect on our day.

Amenities

There is plenty of fun to be had at the main lodge at Norther Outdoors. The floor to ceiling stone fireplace in the beautiful great room is the perfect gathering spot for groups. Wifi is provided free in the main lodge, and it is packed full of amenities for families. A heated pool and hot tub are available, as well as an arcade and a full-service restaurant that serves the most delicious food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

A pool table and a bar are available for adults too, and there is a small shop for picking out the perfect souvenir or those items you might have forgotten at home. Kayaks are available for rent at the front desk as well, for use on the lake near the main lodge and a basketball goal is located out back.

The Restaurant

The Forks Resort Restaurant is a great place to grab a meal during your stay. We ate there for practically each meal of our visit, and the food was always served fast and tasted amazing. There are a wide range of offerings on the menu from fish and chips to burgers and even steaks. A kid's menu is available with plenty of kid-friendly staples on it, and the prices are always reasonable.

The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the staff is always ready and willing to help curb a craving when you come back from a day of outdoor adventure.

Northern Outdoors Adventures

In addition to all of the on-site resort amenities, Northern Outdoors provides a wide range of adventures that can be booked from the resort. From golfing, hiking and fishing to ATV rentals and float or white water trips in the Kennebec River, there are family-friendly outdoor adventure options galore.

The boys and I took a float trip down the Kennebec River in some inflatable kayaks. Our guide drove us to the put-in location and we were off on a roughly two hour adventure through class 1 and 2 rapids. The trip was peaceful, beautiful and so fun, we even spotted an eagle soaring high above us.

If you're headed to Maine and want an authentic outdoor experience, then Northern Outdoors is the perfect destination for your next family vacation. To learn more about the resort, visit NorthernOutdoors.com.
