As a Florida native, I love Disney World as much as the next person. However, I have been there enough times to know that if I am looking for a true "vacation" where I can sit back and relax, Disney is not the place to be. Luckily, Florida is home to many great family travel vacation spots that not only offer the opportunity to relax, but also present a wide range of eco-tourism adventures for the whole family to enjoy. One such place is Gulf County, FL. where there is something new to discover and try at every turn.
When the boys and I travel, especially on our summer road trips, we are usually in a tent. We love to focus on exploring nature and finding eco-tourism options in every destination that we visit. Gulf County, FL. is teaming with options like these. The adventures below are just a few family travel options that are available in Gulf County for those interested in eco-tourism or just enjoying the beautiful world around them.
Kayaking in the Dead Lakes
Watch the fog roll off the surface of the water in the early morning hours as the birds, frogs and other critters come out for the day while your canoe drifts past the Cypress and Tupelo tree trunks that give the Dead Lakes their trademark name. This eco-adventure is a perfect low-key activity for the whole family.
Watch the Dolphin Parade
A term coined by one visiting family, visitors can rent a home in the Indian Pass area and head down to the water's edge each morning to watch dolphins frolic and play. Missed the dolphin parade? No worries, there are countless opportunities to charter a boat, take a tour or even glimpse a stray dolphin or two swimming by during your visit.
Sunsets on Horseback
Head out to the beach on horseback and ride right along the water as you glimpse out at a watercolor painted sky. Family activities like these lend a sense of adventure to an already breathtaking experience.
Go Scalloping
Hop in the water for some snorkeling fun and maybe even catch your dinner when you go scalloping in the grasses along the shore. Kids and adults alike will love the hunt!
Whether you decide to take it easy and soak up the sun, take a leisurely stroll at "The Point" searching for shells or head out on the water for an adventure in a chartered boat, Gulf County, FL. is the perfect family travel destination in Florida to "get away from it all."
