Barcelona – Fun City for Family Vacations #FamilyTravel
12:44 PMBarcelonians are rightfully proud of their beautiful city, and the variety of attractions on offer makes this an ideal place to spend a long weekend. This city is also one of most exciting for families. You can easily find historic buildings, amusement parks and beaches in Spain’s most popular family-friendly destination. The Spanish are a family orientated nation and if you’re considering taking a Barcelona city vacation this year, you’ll find that this cosmopolitan city is more than capable of keeping the kids entertained.
Jaw-dropping Architecture
If you want to render your kids speechless for a few moments then simply take them to some of Barcelona’s most famous buildings. The gothic Sagrada Familia dates back to 1882, and although still not fully completed it exudes a fairy-tale like ambiance and is regarded by many as a work of art. Another beautiful and fun location is the Gothic Quarter, which is full of winding streets, market stalls, restaurants and another amazing building, the Cathedral of Barcelona. However, if you want to see the city from the sky then take a trip on the iconic Transbordador Port cable car, which provides stunning and unhindered views of the entire city and the harbour area.
You can’t take a family vacation without visiting at least one fun fair and Barcelona will not disappoint the little ones in this respect. With its roller-coasters, Ferris wheel, castle and pirate area there’s no doubt that Tibidabo Amusement Park will be a must-visit attraction. A cable-car ride is required to reach Montjuïc Castle and kids (and adults) will love exploring this 1640 fortress with its museum and woodland play area. The Magic Fountains is another popular city venue for families and features a musical water and light show; make sure to go in the evening to see the fountains in full illuminated glory.
Barcelona is a coastal city with a beautifully warm climate for much of the year, which makes the many beaches a natural attraction. Lively Barceloneta is the closest beach to the city but make sure to visit the Port Olimpic area to enjoy the beautiful marina, that offers many restaurants and stores as well as the beach climbing area for the kids. There are in fact several kilometers of different beaches to enjoy and most will have delightful picnic areas as well as watersports such as kayaking, sailing, jet-skiing and even scuba-diving for the intrepid, all available at the marina water sports center.
This is just a taste of the attractions on offer in this magnificent city and there’s a lot more to do including the mammoth Aquarium Barcelona as well as the famous La Boqueria market. If you get lost while wandering the streets then simply ask a local for directions – you will not meet friendlier locals.
