A Child's Future is Worth Every Sacrifice #DreamForMyChild
10:24 PMI participated in this campaign for MetLife. I received composition for my participation, but all opinions stated are my own.
The title of this blog post is a quote from a video by Metlife that has been making the rounds online. The video, called "My Dad's Story - Dream for My Child" is both endearing and heart wrenching at the same time. As parents, the quote is true though, a child's future is worth every sacrifice. As a mom who has the sole burden of providing for four boys on my own, this video really hit home.
There have been so many times throughout the years that I didn't know how I was going to make ends meet. Times when all we had to eat was a bag of food from a local pantry, and times when I would wait for 6 hours in the middle of the night in freezing temps for a chance to get a toy to put under our Christmas tree from a local church. Luckily, those times are gone, but the sacrifice continues.
The boys don't know that I stay up until 2-3 am every morning working so that I can have the time during the day to homeschool them. I homeschool them so that they can be confident in their learning, and so their learning and behavioral disorders don't get in the way. They don't know that I cry myself to sleep some nights afraid that even with all that I do, it might not be enough. Or that my nerves are so frayed from the constant time crunch everyday that I sometimes take more frequent trips to the bathroom than necessary just to catch a breather. They don't know what sacrifices have to be made so that I have the time and money free to take them on our epic summer road trips. My dream for them is that all they see is a mother who loves them more than life. A mom who is always there for them, and who wants only the best for their futures. My dream is that they find the support that they need in me to grow into the men I know they can be.
Have you seen the Metlife video? If you haven't, I highly suggest checking it out. I promise it will probably be your best spent three minutes of your day. It is a powerful reminder that what we do for our children does not always go unnoticed.
As parents, it is easy for us to get discouraged and to get wrapped up in the worries and burdens of the day. I think it is important for us to remember why we do the things we do. Why we wake up every morning and do it all over again. I know, that I have four beautiful faces that remind me every morning that a child's future is indeed worth every sacrifice.
