Last month I told you all about a new Hallmark Hall of Fame movie being released, Away & Back. After watching this heart warming, family-friendly movie with the boys, I wanted to check back in and share my thoughts on the film, as well as tell you about a great sweepstakes the Hallmark Channel has going on right now!

About Away & Back

The Hallmark Hall of Fame movie Away & Back is a story not only about a family of swans that come to make their home at the Peterson Farm, but a tear jerking tale about the healing of the Peterson family themselves and the course of life itself as well. The movie stars Jason Lee as Jack, the head of the Peterson family and widowed father of three children, the youngest of which is Frankie played by Maggie Elizabeth Jones. Minka Kelly plays a headstrong ornithologist Ginny Newsom, who comes to the Peterson Farm after a mother swan unexpectedly runs into a power line, leaving her nest of eggs behind. Our Thoughts

When we sat down to watch Away & Back, I wasn't sure how the boys would handle it. They are getting older, and being boys, they often crave movies that are action packed. Also, the father of my oldest three boys passed away several years, and I wasn't sure how they would handle the story line of a family healing from the death of a parent. When all was said and done though, everyone in the house enjoyed the movie, and for a variety of reasons.

First of all, it is worth mentioning that the story line is well developed, and there are several interconnecting themes that carry throughout the movie to come to a very satisfying end. Also, the acting is spot on throughout the film as well. I have loved Jason Lee since his endearing rolls in Alvin and the Chipmunks and my name is Earl. He does a phenomenal job of playing the widowed patriarch Jack. Minka Kelly is incredible in her roll as Ginny Newsom, a no-nonsense ornithologist who is great with birds, but less so with people, and Maggie Elizabeth Jones is an extremely talented young actress who is just adorable in her roll of headstrong Frankie.

I don't want to give too much of the movie away for those who have yet to see it, but I will say, it is a touching movie that is safe for the whole family to enjoy together. In fact, there is an encore performance of the Away & Back on the Hallmark Channel today, February 14th at 4:00pm ET, it would make the perfect family movie for Valentine's Day! Can't catch it tonight? Away & Back is available for purchase on the Hallmark Hall of Fame website.
