DIY Chalk Paint Dipped Milk Jars

6:00 AM

Fall is coming, yes, even to the year round sauna that is Florida. I like to use this as an excuse to spruce up my home with some new decor. As always, I am working on a budget, so I can't afford all the adorable shabby chic trinkets I find in my favorite shops and online stores. What I can do however, is break into my rather extensive craft supply drawers, and throw together new pieces like these adorable DIY chalk paint dipped milk jars with embellishments and some felt leaf covered twigs for good measure. Check out the tutorial of your own, and add some shabby chic to your Fall decorating this year.

Materials:

Chalk paint in your choice of colors. Tutorial here to make your own.
Paint or foam brush
Milk jars
Lace, burlap and other embellishments
Twigs
Different colors of felt
Scissors
Hot glue
Masking or Painter's tape (optional)

Instructions:

Step 1: Mark off the area you want to paint on your milk jars. You can skip this if you plan to freehand it for a shabbier look. We used Frog Tape, but you can use masking tape or any other brand of painter's tape you like.

Step 2: Paint each milk jar and place upside down so that it can dry.

Step 3: While the milk jars are dying, gather up some twigs from outside and draw some leaf shapes on different colors of felt.

Step 4: Cut out your felt leaves. You can make different shapes or print out a template from online if you prefer.

Step 5: Attach the felt leaves to your twigs with a hot glue gun.

Step 6: Once dry, turn the milk jars over, remove the tape if you used any, and begin adding embellishments to the top of the jars, securing them with hot glue.

Step 7: Add your felt leaf twigs to the jars, and display on a mantle or shelf.
