Campground Cube Steak Sandwiches

Delicious recipe for campground cube steak sandwiches. #recipe #camping

I grew up eating cube steaks, my mom would pan fry them and they were delicious every time. I got a craving for some the other day while we were camping, and I knew that there was no way for me to make the sides that usually go with them, so I started to think about how I could turn them into a quick meal. What I came up with were campground cube steak sandwiches. Basically, just like you would usually make cube steak, but in a delicious soft ciabatta roll. It would have been better with some sauteed onions, but sadly I didn't have access to one. Still delicious and gobble worthy though!

Ingredients:

1-2 lb. cube steak
flour
garlic powder
salt and pepper
butter
ciabatta rolls
cheese (optional)

Instructions:

Step 1:

Slice the cube steak into thin strips.

Step 2:

Spread the strips out over a plate of flour and add salt, pepper and garlic powder to your liking and then toss with the flour, coating each strip well.

Step 3:

Place a liberal amount of butter into a hot cast iron skill over medium high heat on the camp stove. Once hot and sizzling, add the cube steak strips.

Step 4:

Cook strips for 5-10 minutes turning occasionally depending on the level of doneness you prefer. Remember this is beef, so it doesn't have to be well done unless you like it that way. Try not to turn the strips too much, or you loose that crispy crunchy coating that is oh so good!

Step 5:

Add cube steak strips to your ciabatta rolls and add cheese if you like. Enjoy!

  5. The best part of camping for me is all of the yummy food! I know that sounds crazy because it's not luxurious, but you get simple recipes with big tastes. Plus, who doesn't love a smore?
