Oh boy, when you plan a big trip like our 70 day camping trip, there is only so much you can plan, and then the rest is sort of left up to chance. Sometimes everything goes smoothly, and other times, things can go very wrong. The first stop of our trip was at LeFleur's Bluff State Park, and it was full of ups and downs. While the park was great and we enjoyed our time there immensely, we had a few things go wrong, that kind of tested my resolve about pushing on with the trip.
We arrived at the State Park on the evening of May 9th. Luckily, we had just enough of a repreve from the rain for me to set up camp and cook dinner in the dark. Aside from very muddy shoes tramping into the camper, we were doing really great.
The next morning, the boys were excited to get started fishing, and after a few hours of trying to explain to them why they kept getting snagged and losing their tackle, they finally got it. We took a trip to the Mississippi Children's Museum, which was a real treat, and I plan on covering our visit in a separate post later this week. Upon returning, we found out there is a leak coming from the AC that goes in through one of the light fixtures in the camper, and we can't use it anymore. That was the first thing to go wrong. I also discovered my keyboard on my laptop was not working anymore, likely due to the dampness caused by the leak in the camper.
Luckily, that night we were rewarded with a beautiful rainbow after some evening rain and a gorgeous sunset.
LeFleur's Bluff is a great campground for those who love to fish and still wish to be close to Jackson. It is right off I55 at exit 98B, and is just mintutes from great museums and attractions for the whole family. The boys spent most of their days fishing from our campsite, which was a lakefront view, and from the docks by the picnic shelters where we cooked when it rained.
The state park also features hiking, disc golf course, biking, boat ramps and a great playground for kids, which is right next door to the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science, which we also visited.
Unfortunately, the last night of our stay here, I got horribly sick, I suspect food poisoning from, but it must have been a restaurant we ate at for breakfast on Mother's Day, because none of the boys got sick and that is the only place we ate different food. I was up all night and started running a fever the next day. We also woke up to a flat tire on the camper, which was ultimately fixed for free by the very amazing folks at the Car Care Clinic!
Campsites at LeFleur's Bluff State Park come with picnic tables, fire pits, lantern poles, and gravel tent pads for tent campers. They also have full hookups with electricity and water for campers, and bathrooms with showers. The rate per night is only $18, which is a steal considering their proximity to the city. If you are visiting the area, you couldn't ask for a better place to vacation with your family.
Thanks so much for following our 70 day road trip. After an overnight stop at a hotel last night so I could recover, we are back on the road and settled into the Lake of the Ozarks this evening. Wow that is really pretty! I would love to fish like that, I haven't went in years! That park looks like a great family time place!!!

ReplyDeleteIt has been AGES and AGES since I have been camping, but that is something I wouldn't mind doing again. Now, all I have to do is try to convince my husband. ~lol~
