Myrtle Beach is a beautiful location full of exciting things to do outdoors. A beautiful beach, water sports, hiking, fishing and so much more, but what happens when it's raining and cold? When we planned a trip to Myrtle Beach for Spring Break, we knew the weather could go either way. Our first few days there were anything but ideal. Luckily, there are a variety of family friendly Myrtle Beach attractions that are perfect on a rainy day. So, if you are headed to Myrtle Beach for vacation and are worried that the weather may be less than cooperative, keep the following rainy day attractions in mind. P.S., their also great on sunny days as a break from the beach too!

Ripley's Aquarium


Ripley's Believe It Or Not has attractions scattered all over the country. I don't know if it is because I have boys or not, but their attractions are always among our favorites when we visit a city that has them. We did have the opportunity to visit one other Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg, but I love that the attractions are always different from state to state. I actually enjoyed the Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtle Beach more.




A Ripley's Aquarium is much like any other aquarium you would visit, but they have fun and interesting facts that you might not find elsewhere. At the Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtle Beach, you can have your finger tips nibbled by "doctor fish", pet a shark, pick up a horseshoe crab, ride a 340 foot long glidepath through a crystal clear tunnel full of sharks, and so much more!





Plan to spend most of the day here, there is a discovery center with touch tanks, a wide range of walk through exhibits including Rainbow Rock where you can also catch diving shows throughout the day, and Friendship Flats where you can pet or even swim with rays if you are so inclined. During the weekends during the off season and throughout the week in peak season, you can catch a mermaid show, perfect for little girls in your group. Tickets for the aquarium are $20.99 for adults, $11.99 for children 6-11 and $4.99 for children 2-5, discounts are usually always available though especially when bundling tickets for other Ripley's attractions in the area.

WonderWorks


We have seen WonderWorks in other cities before, but we had never been to one. If you have never set foot inside a WonderWorks yourself, think of a science museum, kid's museum, and playground all mixed together! In short, it is fun, and not just for kids, for parents too!



During our visit, we cracked a safe, experienced hurricane force winds, reached out and touched electricity, laid on a bed of nails and so much more. Again, this is an attraction that can take up as much or as little time as you like, but plan for at last several hours of play. Including lunch in the cafe, we were at WonderWorks a total of six hours.





There are several floors of themed fun, including Natural Disasters, Physical Challenge, Light and Sounds, Imagination Lab and Space Discovery. In addition to exhibits, WonderWorks in Myrtle Beach also has an indoor ropes course that is included with admission, plus laser tag and a larger outdoor ropes course that are available at an additional fee. Admission to WonderWorks is $23.99 for adults and $14.99 for children ages 4-12. Again, there are almost always coupon specials online or in the various free coupon books located in hotel lobbies.

Ripley's Odditorium, Marvelous Mirror Maze and 5D Moving Theater



In addition to the Ripley's Aquarium, there are a variety of other indoor attractions from Ripley's that are perfect on a rainy day. These include the Believe it or Not Odditorium, Marvelous Mirror Maze and 5D Moving Theater. While these attractions are not as large as the aquarium, they still provide a great repreve from the rain or cold, and the multiple attraction tickets offered by Ripley's make them very affordable for families. We visited all of these on our trip to Myrtle Beach, and are not sorry that we did.



The Odditorium, Mirror Maze and Moving Theater, along with the Haunted Adventure are all located within walking distance of each other on North Ocean Blvd. The Believe it or Not Auditorium was similar to others we have visited both in Orlando and Gatlinburg, but what I like about them is that they always contain different items with unique stories, like an awesome license plate display in the shape of the United States, whose wording spelled out the words to the Star Spangled Banner. Pricing for the Odditorium is $12.99 for adults and $9.99 for children.




The Marvelous Mirror Maze and 5D Moving Theater are smaller attractions, they won't take up a bunch of time, but they will keep the kids occupied for a bit. Plus, with the bundled pricing with other Ripley's attractions makes them pretty affordable options for families. The mirror maze tickets are $8.99 for all ages and 5D Moving Theater tickets are $12.99 for adults and $9.99 for children. However, you can get a bundled ticket that includes admission to all the Ripley's attraction discussed in this post for $47.99 for adults and $31.99 or children. That is two full days of fun!

Medieval Times


The above attractions are great for entertaining the kids during rainy days, but what do you do when the sun sets and other attractions close? Medieval Times is an amazing option for families looking to have a delicious meal served with a big old side of entertainment. We have been to Medieval Times in Orlando several times, and we enjoyed the show at the Myrtle Beach location just as much.



If you have never been to Medieval Times, kids, especially boys, will love it. It gives them an excuse to eat with their hands. Yes, you heard me right, you are transported into the medieval age when silverware just wasn't used. The setting is a medieval tournament of knights, and you enjoy your delicious fare while watching the knights compete and cheering for the knight of your color to win!



We attended the show on St. Patrick's Day, and our knight was none other than the green knight. Of course, he won, an I even received a flower from him. The horsemanship and talent that goes into this show is amazing, and it never fails to entertain visitors of any age. Tickets are $51.95 for adults and $25.95 for children, but keep in mind that includes both the show and your dinner. There are also coupons available in various locations, including online.

The Carolina Opry


I am usually hesitant when it comes to taking boys to any type of show. I worry that they won't sit through the whole thing, or that they'll have to get up too many times. However, I had heard such wonderful things about The Carolina Opry show that I just had to take the chance. I'm glad I did, because they all really enjoyed it, and I had no problem getting them to sit through the 2 hour show.



The Carolina Opry is a variety show that features a great bunch of singers, dancers and even comedians. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't partial to All That, an innovative group of cloggers that you may remember from America's Got Talent. They are every bit as good as they were on the show, and they're not bad to look at either.



When I asked the boys what part they enjoyed most, they all mentioned the comedy sections of the show. We found ourselves laughing on several occasions throughout the show. Another favorite was the music from Trent Wideman, his performance on the hammered dulcimer was fantastic, and I have never seen anything like it before. Tickets for The Carolina Opry start at $34.95 for adults and $17 for children. There is also a Good Vibrations and Light Show available at the theater as well.

While Myrtle Beach is home to a wide range of outdoor and sunny weather activities, there are still plenty of top notch Myrtle Beach attractions for families on rainy days as well.
