Best Family Vacation Ideas This Summer
1:25 PMGuest Post By: Rose Miller
Many of us will have wondered where to spend the summer holiday by now and to us here in the UK, the options abound. One of the most popular destinations by far has to be Majorca, aptly compared by Lonely Planet to a comfortable, mature, glamorous, middle-aged movie-star, the very personification of what those of us with children aspire to be, at least on vacation, that is.
Its popularity somewhat tainted by the hoards of teenage barflies in Magaluf, the island of Majorca or Mallorca, as the Catalans prefer it, with an area of only 1,405 sq miles, is at the heart of the Balearics. It stands in the Mediterranean Sea, of the Eastern coast of Spain and it is surrounded by Menorca, Formentera and Ibiza,
Plan Ahead
The Balearic Islands are said to host around 10 million tourists each year and Mallorca is their primary destination. Therefore, if you want to avoid the surge in hotel prices, it’s probably best you look for affordable 2014 Majorca deals now and plan your exciting trip with your family and friends for this season.
Family Fun
Mallorca boasts nearly 80 beaches, all of them different in terms of amenities, popularity, remoteness and suitability for outdoor activities. One of the smallest and most secluded beaches is Ses Illetes, just a few miles from Palma, but a family favourite with shallow water and golden sand. A popular resort close to Palma is S'Arsenal, with its Aqualand El Arenal fun park, where children can enjoy a myriad of pools and rides. A miniature train runs from here to Ca'n Pastilla, where a children's playground awaits.
A typical Balearic beach is Portals Nous, which is on a long narrow cove, but it will certainly not be as exciting for children as the Marineland nearby. Sea lions, dolphins, sharks and exotic fish, crocodiles, snakes and even parrots will be putting on a show for your little rascals. And probably the all-time favourite with families is Palma Nova, a vast beach on the Badia de Palma, where children like to run amok. The water here is perfect for children and beginner swimmers.
So what are you waiting for? A ten days worth load of paellas, sobrasadas, ensaimadas and calderetas de llagosta with your name on it is waiting to be washed down with some winsomely bewitching Pla y Llevant wine this summer. Salud!

Oh, I'm really looking forward to this summer, I almost got nostalgic just reading this post!
ReplyDeleteI miss the heat, the sand, the wind blowing in my hair and my loved ones relaxing beside me. Your post makes a wonderful suggestion, now if only I could find a time machine and fast forward a few months, that would really be great. :)
And of course, planning ahead can be kind of tricky when there are more people involved, but it's definitely worth booking ahead if everyone's sure they can make it.
Thank you for writing this!
