Safe Viewing of Top Shows for Kids with Kidoodle

Just like the real world, the Internet can be a dangerous place for kids if you don't take safety precautions. You take one wrong turn and bam, you are face to face with inappropriate content, ads or even people offering to "chat" with you. As a parent, I want my children to be exposed to the online world, since it plays such a vital role in our society, but I want them to do it safely and without risking their innocence or worse. I was recently given the opportunity to try out Kidoodle.TV, an online kid's programming site that is absolutely geared towards children ages 12 and under, and keeping them safe!
{What is Kidoodle.TV?}
Kidoodle.TV is an online site where parents can set up personalized profiles for each of their children, customize it by age, their children's favorite programming picks, and let their children loose to explore exciting video content without the risk of being exposed to anything inappropriate. How does it work?
First, you setup an account, which during the remainder of December is free. Once the account is created, you will see the screen below prompting you to setup a profile for your child.
Creating a profile for your child is simple. You can put in their name, choose an avatar that features a character from their favorite show, as well as customizing the color of their profile, age range and more!
You can also choose from the available programming, sifting through and choosing only the shows your children will love. You can create a profile for up to five different children, making sure they each get the programs they love and shows appropriate for their age range.
There are a few shows that all of my boys love, like Transformers and GI Joe. However, my youngest is also a fan of Paddington the Bear, while my 10 year old prefers shows like Family Game Night. There are also great educational programs from National Geographic that I put on each of their profiles that we use to go along with some of our homeschool science lessons!
I love that I can let the boys have their freedom on the site, without having to worry about what they might come across, and they love that they don't have mom hanging over their shoulder, not to mention the amazing access to so many great shows. Did you know that Kidoodle.TV even has Inspector Gadget? I remember watching that when I was a kid and now the boys love it too.
Once you login to your parent account, you just select a child's profile and hand it over to the child to navigate as they please. They'll see a screen like the one below with their favorite shows just waiting to be clicked.

ReplyDeleteCool! Right now Sweet T is only allowed to watch PBS and Nick Jr. because there's no commercial interruptions. This would expand the viewing possibilities for us.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great option for kids, love this.
