Avoid Holiday Burnout with These Sleep Saving Tips

8:02 PM

I am a Serta ambassador, but all words, thoughts and opinions are my own.

As much fun as the holidays are, they are often pretty darn stressful too. Between extra activities, events and company, there are a million different ways we can get burnt out during this time of year. The best way to avoid holiday burnout? Make sure you get a good night's rest.

{How to Get a Great Night's Rest}

Turn off electronics at least an hour before going to bed. Sleep surveys and polls like the National Sleep Foundation's annual Sleep in America poll suggests that the exposure to bright lights and electronics prohibits the release of melatonin in the body, which promotes sleep. Dimming the lights and grabbing a book instead of electronics before bedtime can help you sleep better overall.

Create a relaxing environment. Take a hot bath, light some lavender scented candles and take some time to relax in a soothing environment before bed for a better night's sleep. There are even essential oil sprays and scented pillowcases that you can use on your bedding to help relax you while you drift off to sleep.

Choose the perfect mattress. Having a mattress that is not compatible with your sleeping style can really hurt your chances at getting enough rest. If you have a mattress that is either too soft or too firm, you can find yourself tossing and turning in the middle of the night. We have a Serta mattress that is just perfect for both our sleeping styles, and since getting it, we sleep much more soundly. Check out the easy 5 step mattress selector from Serta to find your perfect fit.

Drink some herbal tea. Just like the essential oil sprays that you can place on your bedding to help promote better sleep, herbal teas like Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Herbal Tea made with spearmint and chamomile can help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

  1. Thanks for these tips to getting more sleep! I have been staying up later recently, trying to get work done and it's really cutting into my sleeping routine. I need to start shutting off my computer and phone earlier.

  3. I love these. But unfortunately, herbal tea wakes my system up. I don't know maybe because I'm used to drinking tea in the morning to start my day. Anyway, great post!

  11. We desperately need a new mattress. Besides that, I really need to go to bed earlier. I stay up really late and then get up really early (plus wake up once or twice during the 5 hours or so I do get to sleep). Sigh. Thanks so much for these tips!

  15. I've done all of the things you suggest except to get a good mattress. Ours is so old and so horrible. I never sleep well. :/

  16. I need to start turning off my phone an hour before I go to bed. I hate to admit that I probably lay in bed playing on my phone for about an hour before I'll actually fall asleep.
