How to Cut Your Boy's Hair at Home

Seems like every time I turn around my kids are in desperate need of a haircut. Now I understand why so many of the quick trims of my childhood were done on a stool in the kitchen. All those haircuts and trims really add up!  Luckily for my son, his haircut did not include a plastic bowl. In fact, I was able to use the Wahl Lithium Ion Clippers in order to achieve a great haircut. Wahl gave this novice confidence enough to make that first cut.

The 28-piece kit comes in a soft storage case and is very impressive.. With a Multi-cut clipper, full sized trimmer, 14 guide combs, scissors, Barber cape and more, there is something for every grooming need from my husband to my boys.

I remember giving my husband trims while we were dating. Every Summer he sported a no-muss short-clipped cut courtesy of his old clippers. Thank goodness he loved me because I think I snagged his ears more than a few times. The Wahl kit included left ear and right ear tapers that kept me from worrying about my son’s poor ears. If I had snagged him, I am not sure he would have let me keep going.

The kit also came with quick guide filled with tips and techniques to get started. You can also visit wahlkeepitclean.com for video instruction.I followed the guide and started with the longest clippers and finally worked down to the #2 ¼” clippers for the back. Then I used the longest comb for the front and top of his head.

Other than saying it tickled, my son didn't mind sitting for me. He even approved of the final hair cut.

I still have a lot to learn and more practice to put in before I will consider myself good at giving home haircuts, but Wahl made it easy for me. Investing in a good set of clippers will help keep money in my wallet for years to come.

Here is my son’s before and after:

The Wahl Lithium Ion Clipper is perfect for setting up a hair cut station on the back porch. The lithium ion technology offers 50 percent more power and twice the run time. With a full charge, that is 1 hour and 40 minutes worth of clipping time. I am no longer stuck near an outlet for trims. With that kind of battery power, I can even pack my clippers for long trips.

I am thrilled with my Walh Lithium Ion Clipper and highly recommend it for all the guys in your life, big or small.

  3. My hubs buzzes his hair at home and my sister cuts my youngest son's hair. My 18 year old likes having his done at a barber and my middle son has super long hair as does my daughter. We trip at home, though. You do very well!

  4. Well, that is pretty good! My sons get buzzed, and I'd do it at home if I had the right equipment and the nerve :)

  6. When my husband and I first started dating, I used to cut his hair all the time. I must've not been good at it because he now pays for haircuts, lol.

  7. My husband buzzes his own hair and I use his clippers/trimmers to take care of our son's. So much better than paying for haircuts all of the time.

  8. I've watched my best friend the hair dresser cut my oldest son's hair over the last 20 yrs and now she's cutting the younger boys . I never thought to give it a try on my own. I think I'd need a video to watch or a instructional Manuel to read but I'd certainly be willing to give it a try.

  9. My sons hair is curly, so I am too chicken to cut it. My husband on the other hand, I could totally do this.

  17. My husband cut my son's hair at home up until a couple of months ago. My son was terrified of haircuts & so we didn't want to take him anywhere. Now that he's over the fear we've been going to a kid's barber, but just to give my husband a break- we'll be going back to home cuts eventually because it saves a ton of money!

  18. These are such a great investment for cutting the man hair! I can't even begin to calculate the money we've saved by me using the clippers on my husband's hair for so many years. Even at just $7 every other month, you've paid for them in less than a year and then it's just savings after that. You must save a bundle with all those boys in your home!
