DIY Halloween Fabric Garland

Pretty fabric garland for Halloween. #DIY #Halloween #garland

I have seen fabric garlands floating around Pinterest for a while now, and have always wanted to do one myself. I recently took a trip to a local re-use craft store and purchased a bunch of fabric scraps in coordinating Halloween colors of orange and black. When I got home, I quickly realized that they would be perfect for a fabric garland, and that is where the idea for this DIY Halloween fabric garland tutorial was born. First, let me just say that these are super simple, and I promise that even if you don't have a crafty bone in your body, you can make this garland. So dive in, and have fun making one of your own!

Materials:
  • Several large pieces of different types and colors of fabric (you can use lace and ribbon too.)
  • Thick twine, rope or jute
  • Scissors
Step 1: Cut your fabric into strips about 8-10 inches long. Longer lengths can be used too if you want more fabric hanging off each end. I folded my fabric several times and then cut across the length of the fabric. This created several long strips that I could then cut into 8-10 inch lengths from much more quickly than cutting the strips one at a time.

Step 2: Tie your strips of fabric in a set pattern around the rope, twine, or jute you have chosen to use as your base. Place the center of the strip along the rope and then tie in a simple knot around it. This should leave a fairly equal amount of fabric on each side of the rope. It does not have to be perfect, but you should keep the same pattern of fabric strips the whole length of the garland for a more uniform look.

Step 3: When you reach your desired length, leave an extra 2-3 feet of rope at the ends to use for tying your garland up.

  9. I like it, and it can be used for many years, the tissue ones always get mangled & the plastic looks crappy.
