Camping with four boys for 50 days has its challenges. Mainly, the boys get bored in the hot afternoons when we are taking a break from hiking or have just run out of things to do. My solution? Crafts! I took a bag of craft supplies with me on the trip and we have been slowly creating things with them to add a little fun to our days. One of my favorite recent summer crafts has been the nature masks we made at the grand canyon. They are simple and inexpensive to make, but the boys loved it and it allowed them to get creative with the beautiful things around them.

Supplies:

Plain white masks. (Ours were butterfly shaped and purchased at Michael's)
Clear Glue
Item from nature. Leave, sticks, flowers, etc.

Step 1: Take a hike and gather up some items from nature that you would like to use on your mask. This is a great way to let kids get creative and see things in a different way, such as the pine cone pieces that we used for eye lashes on our mask.

Step 2: Spend a few minutes mapping out how you want to set up your mask and where you will place the different items. We used butterfly mask bases, but you can place items on them to change the shape.

Step 3: Glue down the nature items to the mask where you have planned them and then let your mask dry.
