By far, the stop on this 50 day camping trip that I have been looking forward to the most was our visit to the Grand Canyon North Rim. The North Rim is only seen by 25% of those who visit the Grand Canyon each year, and is a 210 mile drive from the South Rim. It also stays cooler because of it's elevation and is only open during the summer. I made our reservation here back in January and there were only four spots left at the campground, so if you want to stay here, definitely plan ahead.

The Grand Canyon definitely did not disappoint. The campground itself was wonderful, with sites right at the edge of the canyon and gorgeous views. There are no electricity or water hook-ups, but there is a well stocked general store as well as coin laundry and shower facilities. There are also several flush toilet facilities located throughout the campground.

A short drive down the road is the Grand Canyon Lodge and Visitor's Center, where you can pick up a junior ranger book, have a great meal, or take in the breathtaking views at Bright Angel Point, but beware, when you go down you must go up on the return trip, and that is one steep trail for someone who is from flat flat Florida.



If hiking isn't your thing, there are plenty of view points to drive to. On our first whole day, we drove to Point Imperial and then made several other stops on our way to Cape Royal, where we walked out to see the Angel's Window.





The ranger programs here are great and happen several times per day. At 1pm each day we were able to catch a program specifically geared towards kids and learned all about bird watching. We also went to a nighttime program about spooky ghost stories concerning the Grand Canyon and our last night we heard ancient Native American stories before watching the supermoon rise over the top of the Grand Canyon at the visitor's center.


This is definitely a stop you must make at least once in your life, and temperatures in the low 70's were a welcomed relief from the hot summer temperatures we had been experiencing at past stops. The North Rim Campground sites cost $18 per night, which is an amazing bargain for the location. I really hope we can make it back one day.
