Clear Creek Campground in Bankhead National Forest - Days 3-6

5:55 PM

Yesterday afternoon we pulled up to the Clear Creek Campground that is part of Bankhead National Forest. It is located just outside of Jasper, AL. It was bright and sunny and check in was a breeze. Be aware though if you ever visit, they take cash only, so no cards. Our site is in the Fawn Loop and we are one of only two campers there except the campground hosts, so it seems like we have the whole place to ourselves.

We made a quick stop at the playground after setting up camp last night and once again, you can see our camp is just across from the bathrooms. I told you, I am all for roughing it, but the bathroom must be nearby! The campsites here are really nice and have a gravel pad, fire pits and lantern poles. Makes it so much easier to keep everything clean and tidy with a gravel pad and paved road.

This morning it looked as though it would rain, but by the afternoon the sun was out. We went for a hike and saw some beautiful flowers, a slug and Joshua even found a snail shell.

After the hike and lunch, we headed down to the swimming area here. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the swimming and we stayed for nearly three hours before the thunder started. We are now sitting in Jasper doing laundry and waiting out the rain. Tonight I attempt pizza on the grill and skillet cookies. If either of them work out, I will be sure to put the recipes up.

{Visitor Information}

Clear Creek Campground has electric sites with water starting at $22 per night for single sites. Double sites and those on loops by the water are more. There are flush toilets and showers available at each loop, as well as basketball, volleyball and playground areas. There are two hiking trail, one a little over 2 miles long and the other is a bike trail .8 miles one way. The swimming area is available for a day use fee of $5 if you are not camping.

  16. Looks like so much fun! I wish we could take the girls camping before the baby comes in August. My girls were just saying how they want to go camping because I bought them some marshmallows for a treat. Even at 3yo kids associate marshmallows with camping, lol.
