5 Healthy Foods I Want to Try This Year
3:09 PMI like food. A lot. Okay, I like food a whole lot! Unfortunately, most the foods I used to enjoy just aren't good for me. I have gone out of my way so far this year to be a healthier me and part of this is eating healthier. So, I have come up with a list of top foods that are healthier for me and that I aim to try at least once this year.
Seaweed
Edamame
Technically, I have tried edamame once before. Unfortunately, I was not very well acquainted with it and had no idea you were supposed to remove them from the pod. So, I stuck the whole thing in my mouth, looked like a fool and gave up on them because it was stringy and awful. I would love to try them the correct way this time.
Beets
I have always been scared of them because of their color, but my sister loves them and I think I should give them a try. If nothing else, I could make veggie chips out of them.
Quinoa
There have been quinoa recipes all over the Internet recently and it always looks so good. This food is completely foreign to me though, so I have avoided it. I really need to start trying new things though, quinoa made my must try list for the year too!
Have you tried any of these foods? If so, let me know what you thought and if you have any recipes, definitely feel free to link them up in the comments so I can have a look!

Not a huge seaweed fan, but my kids love it. Steamed edamame is delish. I love roasted beets sliced on a salad with toasted walnuts and feta. Quinoa I have tried, but am now avoiding because Western demand has grown so high that locals in South America cannot afford the grain that has been their staple for centuries :(
ReplyDeleteI've tried all of those! Seaweed is well...seaweed. Edamame isn't bad. Beets taste like dirt and quinoa is yummy. I have a few recipes on my blog - one for quinoa cake!
ReplyDeleteLMAO Heather, beets taste like dirt.
ReplyDeleteHeather, that is so sad to hear about those in South America.
We tried Quinoa this year too!
ReplyDeleteThese are interesting ways to have these foods!
ReplyDeleteI love quinoa, and edamame, can't do seaweed lol
ReplyDeleteI adore quinoa and seaweed and edamame. Beets though? Ick... though is that beet ICE CREAM in the photo? So what's the fifth food?
ReplyDeleteA couple recipes:

http://www.honestandtruly.com/2012/05/couscous-salad-tasty-tuesday/ (I made it with couscous, but it would be great with quinoa, too)
I use quinoa in place of rice - just cook it with chicken stock (more flavor) and a little dried parsley and YUM.
I want to eat more beets too.
ReplyDeleteI love seaweed with my sushi and edamame is great, especially with garlic. I also love quinoa since it's so versatile (much like rice)!
ReplyDeleteI love both edamame and seaweed. I could eat them all day!!
