Early Learning and Fun with the VTech InnoTab 2

A few weeks ago I wrote a review of the VTech MobiGo 2. We are big fans of all VTech toys in our home and the boys have been playing and learning with them for about 11 years now. Jase my youngest already owned the original InnoTab and we were recently given the opportunity to review the new VTech InnoTab 2. Jase is absolutely in love with it! More specifically, he is in love with himself and the way he looks on the camera and video recorder. He is a total ham.

{What's New?}

Okay, so if you already own the original InnoTab, you may be wondering, what's new? All of your favorite old features about the InnoTab like the ability to play cartridge games, download games and content from the online portal and easily navigate the touch screen are all still there. However, a few great new goodies have been added that make the new InnoTab 2 a must buy!
  • A built in rotational camera can take rear and forward facing photos.
  • Built in video recorder enables hours of video taping fun!
  • On screen video and photo viewer.
  • Fun photo effects that can be added on screen.
  • 2 GB memory with room for an SD card that enables you to expand the memory to 32GB!
{Who Does It Work Best For?}

The VTech InnoTab 2 was built with children ages 3-9 in mind and those are the ranges that I would say it would work best for as well. My youngest is almost seven and he never got bored with it and was able to navigate it without any issues. I can see a three year old easily being able to make their way through the different activities without much guidance as well. My 9 and 10 year old's also had their fair share of play on the InnoTab 2 as well. Of course, the touch screen is simple to use and there is also an included stylus and pop-up keyboard that can be used to navigate the system.

{What Do We Think}

As a mom, I can appreciate everything that VTech is doing to bring fun to learning for our children. The InnoTab 2 is a simple way to introduce children to technology with a learning environment already included. It is every bit as fun as an iPad for a young child, but you do not have to worry about inappropriate content. The games are always educational and the e-reader aspect gives young readers great practice.

The system is easy to work and they never seem to get bored of it. I was most impressed with the amount of storage the InnoTab 2 has. I went to view Jase's photos and there were over 400 of them! The pictures can be fuzzy and it doesn't work wonders in low light, but it is fun for the kids.

You can of course by cartridges, but there are also over 200 apps including e-books that can be downloaded from online. The other option that I found to be a ton of fun was the built in mp3 player. Now, Jase can enjoy his favorite songs and I don't have to listen to them over and over and over again too.

As for what Jase thought, I will let the video I shot with him speak for itself below.

{Buy It}

You can buy the InnoTab 2 on the VTech website or at local toy retail stores near you. The system retails for $79.99 and cartridges can be purchased separately.

  3. I used to rely on the cartridges Colleen, but they have made it so easy now to just download the games and other apps from online. The cartridges do have the licensed character games though, which are always fun!

  9. Every time I see reviews for these they come with the highest praise- they look to be very kid friendly and at the same time tough . For the price and having an ereader, games, and a lot of control it seems like a good deal!
