This was the wording included at the bottom of a pitch I received from a company regarding a possible review of a beauty product. I won't go into more detail than that, because this post is certainly not about bashing any companies. I simply found this phrase interesting. It was interesting to me that a company would think that this would be a good slogan to help sell beauty products, basically by insinuating that a fake product would be better than a woman's natural ugly beauty. If you think about it, it is the mentality of most of the people in this country.


For instance, driving home in crowded downtown traffic several weeks ago, I saw a thin, attractive woman with flowing red hair and high high heels attempt to walk across four lanes of traffic while not at an intersection. Every single car in her path in all four lanes stopped instantly and all of the drivers were men. At the same time, an overweight slightly less attractive women in terms of physical beauty was trying to do the same thing and not one of those same men held their car for her to walk through. What does this say about how we value each other? Does it mean that if you are not beautiful or at least tr fake methods to be more beautiful then your life is worth less than others?

What sort of message does this send to the younger generation who are already struggling with body and self esteem issues? Fake Beauty is better than the ugly truth? In that case, I better undergo half a dozen procedures to get rid of my ugly truth stat. You know what though? I don't think it makes me any less of a human being or any more of a person because I do not have fake hair, fake boobs, fake teeth, fake nails, etc. When did natural beauty and features become antiquated and intolerable and fake features become the celebrated norm? Is it not okay to be comfortable with your flaws without fear of not being treated the same?
