Things You Won't Believe and Knights in Shining Armor

10:10 AM

On day five of my Kissimmee Trip with the boys, we headed with my sister to experience all things weird and entertaining at Ripley's Believe It or Not and then headed off to dinnertime entertainment at Medieval Times. I honestly did not know what to expect from either of these places, I mean shrunken heads and eating with your fingers? Who knew those two things could be so much fun!

Ripley's was a lot busier than I had expected. There was a line at the door and every room and hallway was filled. Traffic moved steadily throughout the museum though and there was minimal waiting. I had a harder time getting the boys to stay in the same room with me, because of course I wanted to read all of the information that went along with each item and they were just interested in seeing more cool stuff.

Slight word of advice. While it did not bother my boys, because they are, well boys, some children may be frightened by things like the torture section etc. The boys just thought they were cool items with spikes on them and we left it at that. Just be forewarned if you are taking little ones, those rooms are easy enough to gloss over though and the rest of the museum is very family friendly!

The boys thoroughly enjoyed standing next to the world's tallest man, jamming out on the instrument laden car and going through the insane psychedelic tunnel at the end of the museum. Overall, it was a great way to spend several hours exploring the odd and odder things in life and we had a blast. I would definitely add this to your list if you have boys that love gross things!

The thought of Medieval Times freaked me out a little to be honest. I mean, my boys are messy enough on their own, without making them eat an entire meal with their fingers. So, I was that mom. The one that smuggled in extra paper towels in her purse lol. It turned out, I never needed them.

We arrived early to attend the Knights in Training session that is free before the show. Three of the boys thoroughly enjoyed getting to go out into the arena and learn actual knightly moves with wooden swords. One of mine may or may not have accidentally whacked their brother during these drills. (<- I will never tell.)

After the training, we took a walk around the grounds and explored the various buildings they had that held items that depicted what life was like back in medieval times. Yes, there was another torture chamber room here as well, but they do have a sign alerting you before you enter.

At last it was time for the show. At first I was bummed because we were all the way against the wall in a corner, but it ended up working out really well. We were right by the door that all the acts came out, as well as the balcony where the royalty were staged. Also, let me tell you that there is not a bad seat anywhere in this arena. You literally had a perfect view from anywhere!

The food was very tasty and most of the boys ate really well. There was delicious chicken, a rib, a seasoned potato in the skin, a piece of garlic bread, tomato soup and a pastry for dessert. Now I will mention the two things that were a little disappointing to me. There were only two choices for included drinks here. You could either have water or plain Pepsi. It would have been nicer to have a choice of different fountain drinks. Also, there is no alternate kid menu that we were made aware of and my youngest basically ate a piece of bread the whole time we were there because he is too picky.

I would not let this deter you however, because the show is great. The tricks will have you on the edge of your seat and they actually joust! How cool is that? I loved how interactive this show was. Each section has a certain color knight to cheer for and the boys were on their feet cheering and screaming the whole time. So fun! We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Medieval Times and would not hesitate to return on a future trip.
