What Do Your Children Mean To You?

10:38 AM

It may sound silly that I even have to ask that question. I imagine that most people's answers are the same as my own. My children are my entire reason for living and breathing. I never wanted to be anything more than I wanted to be a parent. Every smile and sense of being blessed that I have encountered in the last 10 years has been a direct result of one of my children. If our children mean so much to us, why then do some find it necessary to deny others the opportunity to experience parenting their own child?

Surrogacy Is Illegal In Certain States

Did you know, that in certain states, couples can actually be sent to jail for attempting surrogacy? It is sad but true. Some say, why not just adopt? Adopting is a wonderful and beautiful process, but it is not necessarily right for everyone. If you had the option of holding your own biological child, would you not want to pursue that option? For couples, surrogacy is a way to ensure that at least one of the parents is biologically related to the child.

Same Sex Couples Are Prohibited From Surrogacy and Adoption In Some States

I am from the school of thought, that what each person does with their life is their own right. As long as someone is not hurting others, you don't have to agree with what they are doing, but they should have the right to live life as they please. I for one am working with a same sex couple in my surrogacy and I would not have it any other way.

Florida where I live, just dropped their "Gay Adoption Ban" as of late last year. If they had not, same sex couples would still be denied the right to adopt in this state, as they are in many others. Please explain to me why two people are not deserving of experiencing loving their own child as much as you love yours just based on who they are in a relationship with?

I know this is a touchy subject and I definitely respect everyone's right to have their own opinion. I just want to challenge each of you to truly think about what your children mean to you though, and consider why everyone should not have the right to experience that same joy and happiness.

As of yet, I have not experienced hatred or unkind words due to my surrogacy journey, but I know many others who have. If you do not truly understand surrogacy, please ask questions, but do not automatically hate that which you don't understand. Everyone, whether gay or straight has the right to experience having children of their own.

Please feel free to leave your thoughts and comments below, but know that any hateful or demeaning comments will not be approved. Differing opinions are more than fine, but unkindness is not.

  1. I completely agree with you - everyone should have the opportunity to parent as long as they are fit to do so. Gay is not a reason to see someone as unfit...

  3. I agree with you too. I think no matter what the makeup of a "FAMILY" is (homosexual or heterosexual) shouldn't be in question. You can't help who you love and what is better than having a family with them?
