Jack of All Trades - A Master of None
7:35 AMThe other day, I was having a discussion with my boys about the various jobs I have held throughout the years. When I got married at 17, I did not use my best judgment and sadly, although I do have many credit hours, I never earned a college degree. Before I found freelance writing, which is my trade now, I held a wide range of positions to keep our heads above water. Some of them are quite interesting in fact. Here is a short rundown in no particular order.
- Cashier
- Waitress
- Laundry Attendant
- Customer Service Phone Agent
- Cab Driver
- Carpet and Apartment Cleaning Business Owner
- Adult Novelty Home Party Representative
- Reading Tutor in the Public School System
- Caregiver for Alzheimer's patients
- Children's Clothing Consignment Shop Owner
- Internet Researcher
- Mystery Shopper (Yes this does exist and not all positions are scams)
- Store Manager
Are you a jack of all trades as well or have you just help a really interesting job? Why not share it in the comment section below?

I agree that with a wide range of job experiences you gain so many diffrent skills that you can bring to other jobs. I think it gives you a bigger picture of life.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I've had a bunch of jobs over the years, too. They have all given me a lot of education, too. I'm still considering the adult novelty home party consultant...;)
ReplyDeleteI'm a generalist too - and it's only because i love to self learn until I can solve a problem. Cashier high five ;)
ReplyDeleteI've had several jobs - my first was at a Merry-Go-round and I worked in the snack bar. After that I worked in the title insurance industry for years. Oh and I was a cashier at a wine warehouse for awhile too :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting jobs!
ReplyDeleteI've been a cashier, a box label maker at a pork rind factory, lol, house cleaner, and finally a medical transcriptionist now for the past 9 years.
I've mostly worked in the restaurant industry, and then in college, I moved to office work. I like the hours of office work, but the pace of the restaurant.
ReplyDeleteSounds like we all have a pretty diverse background!
ReplyDeletewow, that's a varied resume! I get bored easily and like to move on. I cant believe you got married so young!
ReplyDeleteI heard that you need 10,000 hours to master something. That's a year and some days. You're a master of being a mommy!!! And no worries, I have a job history like that, we're versatile!
ReplyDeleteI've had a varied resume like that as well!! And yet, I'm still considering going back to school. I think it just goes to show what we can do!
