Rubik's Slide Review and Giveaway
10:36 AMOne of my 7 year old's favorite gifts this Christmas was the Rubik's Slide. When I was a kid, I can remember being fascinated for hours by the original Rubik's Cube, but I don't think I ever figured out a way to solve it. The Rubik's Slide brings that same level of fascination to the table, but with a high tech twist that is easy enough for children to enjoy without becoming discouraged.
{In Their Words}
"Rubik's Slide features over 10,000 puzzles that not unlike Rubik's Cube, require a combination of speed and strategy that can pose a challenge to even the most avid casual gamers.
Fundamentally different is the fact that Rubik's Slide has multiple levels of play - making it accessible for gamers of all ages... puzzles that can be solved in Free Play mode or by choosing the Lightning Round - a race against the clock that challenges players to complete a series of 10 puzzles before time runs out."{My Take}
Although I gave this to my 7 year old, it was stimulating enough to hold my 9 and 10 year old's attention and even my 5 year old took a crack at it. I would recommend this toy for ages 6 and up and I believe that even teenagers would find it to be a fun distraction from traditional video games.
The movements are pretty simple and simple twisting and sliding of the device make the blocks move into different patterns on the lighted screen. The concept is pretty easy to follow as well and there are no detailed instructions to memorize before you can play the game. For a more detailed explanation of how it works, check out the video below.
Setup is simple and the noise level is not obnoxiously loud like some other electronic games. Overall, I think it is a great new take on an old favorite that a variety of age groups can enjoy and I would recommend it to anyone.
{Buy It}
You can purchase the Rubik's Slide for an average price of $15-$18 at retailers such as Toys R' Us, Walmart and Target nationwide, or for only $14.99 on Amazon.
*I received a Rubik's Slide for the purpose of review, but was not compensated for this post in any other way. The thoughts, words and opinions expressed here are entirely my own and were not influenced by anyone else

ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory of the original Rubik's cube is finally solving it (after many years of the cube collecting dust) with the help of on-line solution sites. Also my Rubik's cube is a key chain version so it's very small and the pieces keep falling out.
I just remember that with the old one...I'd be excited to play with it, but then after like 5 minutes, I'd be done with it and moved on to another toy.

ReplyDeleteI tried for months to solve the original Rubik's Cube. One day my cousin came over and said she solved it all the time and started peeling off the colors and solved it that way. I was freaked totally out. I got a new cube because I was sure she had ruined mine. But the only time I ever solved it was when I went to the library and got the solution book and followed it step by step. It made me realize it was a math puzzle. I'm not too good at Math!!
