Worst Holiday Foods - Avoid Damaging Your Waistline
2:07 PMWith Christmas only a few days away and plenty of parties and festivities to come this holiday season, you may want to be aware of the worst holidays foods for your waistline. While these foods may taste oh so good, they could have you packing on the pounds. Instead, consider healthier alternatives and avoid the items on the worst holiday foods list this year.
Alcoholic Drinks
Are you used to reaching for a fruity mixed drink or even a cup of eggnog? Those sugary drinks can have 200 calories or more per glass. Instead, opt for a bubbly glass of champagne with only 100 calories per serving.
Creamy Dips
Creamy dips are a staple at most parties or holiday gatherings. If you are watching your weight though, you may want to steer clear of them. In a simple spinach and artichoke dip, there can be nearly 300 calories per serving. Instead, opt for fat free salsas that have only 50 calories or less per serving.
Baked or Mashed Potatoes
Before planning your holiday meal, reconsider serving those loaded baked or creamy mashed potatoes that can tip the scale at almost 400 calories per serving. Opt instead for some mashed sweet potatoes, or a casserole made with a low fat recipe. Sweet potatoes provide energy for the body as well as beta-carotene and Vitamin C.
Rich Pies
That homemade pecan pie may look sugary and inviting, but it also invites more than 600 calories to cling to your waist and thighs, earning it a place on the list of worst holiday foods. Looking for an alternative? Try an array of fresh fruit and a rich warm chocolate sauce as well. You will still get the feeling of treating yourself, without the massive calorie overload.

Great list! I think it is important for people to not throw their health to the side just because it is the holiday's, those meals can pack on the pounds fast! Then when it is all over you are left with a thicker waist line and more work to get it all off! :) that being said LOL I hope you and the family have a wonderful Christmas!
ReplyDeleteHmm... all my favorites!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
Thanks a lot Kathleen, you just listed all my faves! I have been good though, I have eaten these things, but only in small quantities. When I do take them, I will only eat a portion, like a few bites of each.
ReplyDeleteMy killer has been those darned cookies I made. Fortunately I have given most of them away!
Merry Christmas to you and the boys!
