I love Christmas. It is by far my favorite time of the year and fewer things make me happier than seeing the looks on my children's faces when they open that perfect gift that they have been pleading for all year. We have all experienced unwrap attacks at one point or another. I can remember one of mine very clearly. One year when I was little, I begged and begged for a My Little Pony Castle. Low and behold, that Christmas I unwrapped a large present and there waiting for me was the castle I had always dreamed of, and I freaked! I mean full blown crazy person syndrome.

I don't have a true unwrap attack moment.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I will tell you about my niece's unwrap attack moment. Several years ago, my Mom found a pair of long red flapback pajamas at a resale shop. She purchased them and hid them until Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve, after the kids went to bed, my Mom put the flapback jammies under the tree, draped over some of the presents.
When my niece and nephew got up on Christmas morning and started opening their gifts, they were astonished to see the jammies, and my niece exclaimed "Grandma, Santa dropped his drawers under our tree!"
It is now tradition for Santa to leave his jammies under the tree.
As for what would cause an unwrap attack for me? A new Bunn coffee brewer!

A wii, with a wii fit would probably do it :) When I was 16 my best friend got me the best present ever, and that was my last unwrap attack! I had been wanting a pair of brown fuzzy wedged boots, for at least two years. She saved up all her money and went and got them for me as a birthday present. When I opened them, I nearly lost it, I went nuts lol! three years later, we're still best friends, I still LOVE the boots, and I haven't had an unwrap attack since :)

ReplyDeleteMy best unwrap attack was a few years ago. I am a HUGE photography fan-inseparable from my camera. My cheap digi camera broke right before Christmas and I was distraught. I "borrowed" a super nice $1,000 Canon EOS Rebel from Costco, telling my husband I'd just snap shots of the kids through Christmas then return the camera, since it was waaaay out of our budget. Christmas morning he wrapped up the empty camera box and gave it to me........for keeps!!!!

Honestly, cloth diapers would give me an unwrap attack this year. Yes, I said diapers. Not very glamorous, I know... We have an 11 month old and another baby due next month. We made the decision to switch to cloth for financial reasons.We're a 1 income family, and there is no way we could afford to diaper 2 babies in disposables. Well, we made it very clear to family and friends that the ONLY thing we needed was cloth diapers. We were told we would be given a diaper shower. Then at the last minute, with no communication with us, it got changed to a BOOK shower...we already have about 500 kids books, too. So of course, we have not had the time or warning to budget for dipes, and now our son won't have anything to poop in when he is born. So we're pretty stressed. So diapers would give me an unwrap attack!

I can't say that there is anything I would have a wrap attack about, only because my husband gave me one on my birthday (on the 5th). He replaced EVERYTHING in the kitchen from cutlery to towels and even the appliances with all RED stuff! I had been day dreaming about having an all red kitchen for years!

My unwrap attack story is the unwrap attack I gave my husband. I managed to completely surprise him (near impossible to do) with a golf cart. With the help of neighbors who stored it until Christmas morning and then drove it around front for me, I was able to SHOCK him when he walked outside and saw a golf cart with a big red bow on top! Best surprise EVER!

ReplyDeleteMy unwrap attack sort of falls online these lines, but it really is an attack. For my daughter's 2nd birthday we bought her a Minnie Mouse doll from the Disney Store. After she opened the box I was getting Minnie out of the package. Apparently I didn't get all of the twist ties off of the doll because I decapitated her then and there. My MIL was recording the whole event and my husband and daughters watch this video over and over and over again and laugh until they cry. So, it was a real unwrap attack. (The sweet people at the Disney Store gave us a new Minnie, and I made my husband open the second one!)

My daughter had an unwrap attack about 12 years ago. Her #1 item she wanted for Christmas was the Little Bear talking bear. I had ordered it through a T.V. commercial because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get it in store. It was a very hot item that year. It was in a cardboard box not like the boxes they had in the stores. She had opened all her presents but one and had not gotten Little Bear. She got this sad face and said "I guess Santa didn't get me a Little Bear" Ugh... I was crushed. I said well, you still have one more gift to open. With her sad, disappointed face she unwrapped the box. She did not think that could possibly be Little Bear because it was not in the packaging they had displayed in the store. When she opened that box her face lit up, she jumped up and down hugging that bear and was screaming at the top of her lungs. It was sad and fun. We did record it and still pull out that old VHS tape about once a year to watch. Still brings tears to my eyes.

My unwrap attack moment was more of a double unwrap attack. It happened about twelve years ago.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge hockey fan and I had always wanted a Montreal Canadiens Jersey but they tend to be kind of pricey and there was always something else that I needed to spend money on so it always got bumped to the end of the list. Anyway my parents decided to surprise me with one and if memory serves correct I hug tackled them. And to make things even more awesome my sister decided to feed my stuffed animal obsession by getting me a manatee. I walked around in a happy daze for a week and I wore that hockey jersey just about everywhere for about a month straight.
Looking at either of those things still puts a giddy grin on my face.

ReplyDeleteAs with most people, if I opened an iPad, I would have an unwrap attack suitable for all my neighbors to hear. One similar to one I had the year Santa left my Strawberry Shortcake waiting for me under our Christmas tree when I was a kid. I immediately took m y bike outside to ride along with my Strawberry Shortcake pals comfortably riding in the cute little basket! Of course, I was still in my pajamas, but that did not matter because I was riding the coolest bike ever!
ReplyDeleteI loved that bike so much that I saved it, planning on seeing my own daughter ride it one day! Unfortunately, it did not service a fire when I was in high school - my poor bike. But, I know Santa will bring my kids something they will treasure and have fond memories of, but who would have thought after all these years, Strawberry Shortcake would be back in the wish list of little girls again!

My wrap attack would come from a digital SLR camera. I resisted going digital until a couple years back and still have a GREAT Nikon SLR. Now I also have a Nikon Coolpix that I use almost daily. I guess I'm ready to go all the way!

I wouldn't really call it an unwrap attack but it was the most amazing and expensive gift anyone could give me! I received it from one of my teachers in high school. She was the person that I really liked and respected. She knew that my parents worked at a beef packing plant and had little time to spend on my siblings and I. It was around Christmas time when she gave me a small little package. Urging me to open it, I did. Inside was a small gift card that was for one of the most "expensive" local restaurants here. She gave me a chance to bond with my family since my parents were always working, while my siblings and I spent time on doing well in school. At that time education was very important if we wanted to earn money and get out of the predicament we were in.

The only unwrap attack I can remember occurred last year, when my daughter gave me one of those electronic picture frames, which was completely unexpected. I had made a passing comment about wanting one when we were going through some family photos, and had completely forgotten that I had mentioned it!
