30 Day Shred Day 1 - There Went Breakfast!
11:08 AMOMFG! I don't know why I have this innane urge to torture my own body, but apparently I do. Earlier this year, I woke up one day and decided that I no longer wanted to be over 224 pounds and unhealthy anymore. Since then, I have worked on adjusting my diet and have lost nearly 40 pounds. Below are some before and after photos so far. I am 5'9" my starting weight was 224 and my current weight is 185.
Unfortunately, you can't get healthy by diet alone and as of a few months ago, my weight became stagnant. I was not gaining and was able to maintain, but I was not losing anymore either. I still have another 15-20 pounds to lose to be where I want to be so I knew I had to bring in some exercise.
When I began my weight loss journey I started the couch to 5k challenge and loved it, but due to my bad knees, I came down with an injury that made it not possible. A few months ago I fell up the steps and broke my hand and have just now gotten a good amount of movement back in it.
I have heard awesome things about the 30 Day Shred with Jullian Michaels. I have heard people say it will kill you and make you wish you were never born, but then I have also seen those same people come through the other side with amazing results. So, this weekend I bought it for $9.59 at Target. I didn't realize you could get it cheaper on Amazon.
The workouts are 20 minutes long, but don't let that fool you, they will kick your butt up and down the street. There is a two minute warm up, which tricks you into thinking that everything is going to be okay and you can do this, then Jillian gets all kinds of crazy on you. There are 3 six minute sessions of 3 minutes of strength training, 2 minutes of cardio and 1 minute of abs. Again, it sounds innocent enough, but I can't tell you how many times I litterally shouted "I am dieing" during this workout. You are supposed to do 10 days on Level 1, 10 on Level 2 and then 10 on Level 3 to complete the 30 day challenge.
I made it through the program today, but I don't have any idea what kind of shape I will be in tomorrow to move let alone take care of four kids and torture myself again. Literally, this workout made me sick LOL, I was throwing up in the bathroom about two seconds after the cool down. I guess that means I gave it my all.
It would be great if some of you would join me and then I wouldn't feel alone in my torture. Or, if you have done the 30 day shred, I would love to hear how it worked for you. I will post updates and at the end I will reveal inches lost and post before and after photos. Wish me luck!

oh wow, I would never stick with anything that made me vomit! good for you though! I totally look forward to hearing how it goes!
ReplyDeleteYou look great - congrats on the weight loss! (and surviving 4 boyz :-) hee hee)
ReplyDeleteYou look awesome! I'm definitely afraid of Jillian, though I like the results I've seen from other people doing it. I just go to the gym - it might take longer, but at least I'm not losing my lunch! Good luck - I'm sure it's going to work great on you!
ReplyDeleteYou look great and you are right Jillian kicks butt! I have been on a little bit of a hiatus from the 30 day shred but I really enjoy it and plan on getting back on the shred wagon this week! Good luck on your journey. You will definitely see great results if you stick to this!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, congratulations on your substantial weight loss! Way to go! Second, I would love to join you on a 30 day shred. Of course, I don't have the DVD so I will have to join along a little bit late. We'll see if I can pick up a DVD this week. I am trying to trim down too, and I have been reading some good reviews so it is time to just do it. :) Thanks for the extra motivation!
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies. Glad to hear some of you have tried the DVD. I am sure getting sick will not be an everyday occurence, at least I hope not LOL. I am not too sore tonight, just stick and my knees are weak so we will see what tomorrow holds.
ReplyDeleteKalea, if you have Comcast as a cable provider, try checking the On Demand section. Ours had the first level for free, but you would have to buy the DVD for the next few levels. It would be a good way to try it out and see if it is right for you though!
Haha! I need this! My butt wiggles more than just a little, sigh! I need something that is not too long, but will really give me a workout. Sounds like this will :)
ReplyDeletewow congrats on your weight loss and keep on going! I on the other hand am so lazy that I do not exercise as much as I use to, I only do yoga once a week (sometimes)..
ReplyDeleteI am sure you are not lazy Pat, just busy. :) I literally died when I woke up this morning. I am sore in places I didn't even know I had. Needless to say, I am going to have to skip a day in between workouts til my body gets used to this.
ReplyDeleteI have to take care of four boys and I can't do that if I can't move LOL.
I am very tempted -- Did you see The MotherLoad's post where she shows a video of her Julian Michael sculpted arms?
ReplyDeleteOMG I did not see that, but I am definitely off to google it now. I belive it was awsome though, my chest and arms are freaking killing me today.LOL
