Is American Idol Fading Fast?

11:30 AM

Ellen DeGeneres has announced that she will not be returning for another season of American Idol. Yesterday she announced that she will not be signing up to continue with the show and made this statement: "It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for."

I have not been an avid fan of American Idol for quite some time and after reading a first hand account of how they do the auditions and how talented singers are not let through to the main judging while others who are tone deaf are so that they can be taped for TV, I don't believe I will even enjoy watching the tryouts anymore. However, I do love Ellen and I know that many millions of people are big fans of the show.

So, with the exit of Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres and reportedly Kara DioGuardi as well, is there a future for American Idol? In all honesty, I believe the show has run its course. It originally had a place in helping hopefuls realize their dream, but the whole vision seems to have become corrupted somewhere along the line. What do you think? Should Ryan Seacrest start looking for a new gig?

    1. I stopped watching AI seasons ago because it just got really old to me. I think they figured it out because they kept adding all these gimmicks, like the judges being able to override the votes, adding Ellen, and nothing worked. I think Simon's jumping ship because he knows it's sinking.
