Work-At-Home Wednesday - Work From Home as a Transcriptionist

3:52 PM

Last week on work-at-home Wednesday, I featured call center positions. This week, I am going to focus on transcription work. There is a lot of work available for those who can do transcription and while the pay is not sky high, it is sufficient, especially when you figure you won't be paying for daycare.

I will try to focus mainly on companies that will accept newbies to transcription and who require little or no experience. Keep in mind, some companies will ask that you have transcription equipment and if you do not already own some, that is an investment you may need to make. However, you should never have to pay money directly to a company in order to find legit work, so please do not fall victim to the many scams out there.

All Type Services

This company provides all different types of transcription including medical, business, video and legal transcription. To apply, send an email with your resume and cover letter to resume@alltypeservice.com.

OSI Transcription

I am going to list this one because, they are one of the few that actually offer medical, holiday pay and other benefits. They do require two years of experience, but would be perfect for those who have worked with medical transcription in the past.

Speak-Write

In order to be considered with this company for transcription work, you must have at least two years of experience in an office setting (not necessarily transcription). They pay per word and most can make 10 to 12 dollars per hour.

Call Graph

The pay here is not the best (only $10 per transcribed audio hour,) but they will hire you with no experience and all you have to do is pass a short typing/transcription test. They are a good place to get your feet wet and gain experience in order to land higher paying positions.

QuickTate

This is another company that is really easy to get on with, but doesn't pay much. It is a good alternative if you are waiting to hear from other companies or just need the experience though. They estimate that you can make 5-7 dollars per hour typing 50 words per minute.

  4. Thanks for this information. I'm going to check this out, but I really came to read it because my mom wants to work from home. She should really be retired, but working from home at her own pace and leisure is much better than going out everyday. I'm going to pass this on to her and read it for possibly some extra income for myself.
